Bar Soap Reformulation
Congrats!! You are one of the first to try our new and improved, reformulated bar soap!!
We removed one ingredient: palm oil. That’s it. No other ingredients were added. We've upped the percentage of olive oil a little. The product looks, smells and lathers the same or better. We've tested it and are very pleased with the results. Palm oil is used in most bar soaps to harden the bar, but is actually consider to be slightly drying. Our reformulated bar actually feels more emollient without it.
Here is why we made this change: 85% of all palm oil globally is produced and exported from Indonesia and Malaysia. The industry is linked to major issues such as deforestation, habitat degradation, climate change, animal cruelty and indigenous rights abuses in the countries where it is produced. Findings show that if nothing changes, species like the orangutan could become extinct in the wild within the next 5-10 years, and Sumatran tigers less than 3 years. Historically we have only used a small amount of palm oil in the bar soap to harden the bar. We do not use it in any other products. We have always sourced it carefully and required that our suppliers gave us documentation to show the Palm Oil we used was from members of the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
Even so, we were still not comfortable with the possibility that using palm oil might be contributing to deforestation and loss of habitat for orangutans and other animals. Your bar soap is now better than ever and there will be a little less demand for palm oil. We hope you’ll join us and let friends know about the dire situation with palm oil and also let people know that the Emily products are completely #PALMOILFREE. Also—please let us know what you think of the new label and the better soap. As always, thanks for your orders. Best---
